On Thursday, June 4th, 2009, the Division of Biological Sciences hosted the inaugural Research Showcase 2009. The Showcase was created as a forum for students to exhibit their talent and the exciting research that is being conducted in faculty labs all over campus. Students engaging in research via the phage genomics initiative, BISP 199, BISP 196, and the Divisional integrated master's program all participated in the event. They entered their posters in one of five research categories: cellular & developmental biology; ecology, behavior, & evolution; molecular biology; neurobiology; and biology master's research. Six faculty judges evaluated students on poster content and presentation skills. One winner for best poster was selected in each research category. Awardees received a $75.00 gift card to the UCSD bookstore.

The Division commends the hard-work and spectacular effort of all students who participated in this year's Research Showcase. We hope the Showcase inspires students to get involved in research and enter their work in next year's event!

A special thanks to our faculty judges: Dr. Eric Allen, Dr. Mandy Butler, Dr. Lin Chao, Dr. Nigel Crawford, Dr. Colin Jamora, & Dr. Emily Troemel.
