If you are not planning to take courses for the major abroad or do not wish to meet with an advisor, you may print out a signed copy of the EAP Academic Planning Form here (coming soon) . We also have copies available in our office.

If you would like to meet with an advisor to review your proposed courses, please see our advising times.

*If you plan to study abroad via OAP please meet with an advisor.*

Applying Courses Taken Abroad Towards the Major

All courses taken abroad for the major must be approved by the Biological Sciences Student and Instructional Services Office. Approval may be granted two ways:

1) Take a course from our list of pre-approved classes: here (EAP/GS only)

  • If the courses you plan on taking are on the pre-approved list, please contact us via the VAC after you return and the grades have posted to your UCSD records. We will then make the necessary updates to your audit.
  • In your email please make sure to list: institution, EAP course title and what the courses were pre-approved for.

2) If the courses you plan to take have not been pre-approved you will need to petition them for major credit. Please note: petitions are not guaranteed and are subject to the approval/denial of Biological Sciences faculty members. For petition instructions, please click here.

3) Additional Requirements - ALL courses taken abroad must also meet the following criteria to be approved for use in the major:

  • Subject to UD transferability
  • Must be taken for a letter grade (C- or better)
  • Must transfer as at least 4 units
  • Biology majors must meet their Biology Residency Requirement (9 UD bio classes at UCSD)

* Students who wish to apply EAP/OAP courses towards the major must initiate the process. The Biology SIS Office will NOT automatically review study abroad courses or update student records. If your courses have been pre-approved or you need to petition them, please contact us via the Virtual Advising Center.*
