AAAS Fellows in Biological Sciences

Biology Professors Julian I. Schroeder and Martin F. Yanofsky have recently been named Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Election as a Fellow is an honor bestowed upon AAAS members by their peers for "scientifically or socially distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications."

Schroeder was cited "For his elucidation of the mechanisms of ion transport through the plasma membrane of plant cells and of the signal transduction pathways leading to stomatal closure."

Yanofsky was cited "For distinguished contributions to plant developmental biology and the discovery of the molecular and genetic bases of many aspects of flower and fruit development."

This year's 449 new AAAS Fellows will be announced in the AAAS News & Notes section of the journal Science on November 24. They will also be presented with an official certificate and a gold and blue rosette pin on February 17 during the 2007 AAAS Annual Meeting in San Francisco.
