Beckman Young Investigator Awards

Hopi Hoekstra and David Traver, assistant professors of biology at UCSD, have been named recipients of the 2006 Beckman Young Investigators Award. The two were among 25 scholars from universities and non-profit research institutions to receive the coveted awards this year.

Supported by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation, the award provides "research support to the most promising young faculty members in the early stages of academic careers in the chemical and life sciences."

Hoekstra received a grant to support her research on "the genetic basis of an adaptive behavior in mammals," while Traver received a grant for "the molecular and functional dissection of hematopoietic stem cell biology."
