High School Students in the Schroeder Laboratory
Congratulations to Schroeder lab high school students who have entered Universities as first 4-year college students in their families, including Josephine Aguilar (UCLA, Sweetwater High School), Elvira Gonzales (UC Santa Barbara, Preuss School), Alva Monsalvo (UCSD, Preuss School), and Perla Perez (UCLA, Preuss School).
Preuss School Outreach Program
Alva Monsalvo, a Junior high school student at the Preuss School (http://preuss.ucsd.edu), interned with graduate student Alice Chen in Julian Schroeder’s laboratory. Her research focuses on characterizing the shoot and root growth and cadmium accumulation phenotype of several cadmium tolerant Arabidopsis mutants. Her work in the Schroeder laboratory was presented at the San Diego County Science Fair where she won a 1st Place award in the category of Botany, Senior Runner-Up Sweepstakes Award, 1st place from the Society of Toxicology, and placed 4th overall out of 104 students that won 1st place awards. She will be presenting her work at the California State Science Fair held in Los Angeles. Congratulations Alma!
